Sample item pictured was made from 1/4 inch and 11 ga mild steel.
Yes, it functions mechanically... turn the handle and the gears turn to adjust the position.  Flip the giant lever to turn the lamp off and on (uses a standard wall switch hidden under the steel lever).
For metric units: Scale according to photo #7 above. R
eplace the 1/4 inch steel with 6mm,
replace the 11 gauge steel with 3mm
Material required
1/4 inch: 46 in. x 18 in.,
11 ga: 30 in. x 12 in.
Finished lamp measures
23 inches high when lowered, 33 inches high when fully extended.
