Description
René Lalique designed and manufactured his "Pissenlits" (Dandelion) salad bowl in mid-1921, one of the last pieces of tableware to be made in the Paris surburbs before the opening of the Wingen-sur-Moder factory in Alsace. This is why the signature is R LALIQUE FRANCE (under the base), not accompanied by the "Verreries d'Alsace VDA" logo as was otherwise the case between 1921 and 1923. THe bowl existed in 3 sizes, individual finger bowls, this salad bowl and a larger "Coupe Plate" for cream and desserts. The salad bowl was the most sold and remained in the catalog until Lalique's death in 1945.The decoration is very simple, large dandelion leaves sprouting from the center. The diametre is 23.9 cm (9 1/2").
"Pissenlits" is photographed and referenced in the big book by Felix Marcilhac, the unoficial "Lalique Bible", on page 750 of the 2010 French printing, under reference "3215". The caption specifies that it was not continued after the end of WW2. The signature, R LALIQUE FRANCE" is engraved on the base (photo 4).
