VINTAGE LALIQUE MADONNA & CHILD STATUE
Gorgeous and elegant older version of Vierge a L'enfant (Madonna with Child) depicting the Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus - glass alone measures 13-1/2" tall, 3-1/3" wide and 1-1/2" deep - with the hard molded thick black plastic base, it measures 14-5/8" tall. Back is intaglio molded and frosted to bring out the detail, front is smooth clear glass, and edges are beveled - it is impressed at about 1" in the deepest part of the molding. This style was produced prior to and directly after WWII - it was replaced with a more modern version where the figures are in high relief on the front - I'm dating this to the 1950s-1960s.
Condition is lovely with no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs, discoloration or damage -- the base was once attached by old tape and fine fabric - it is no longer attached to the base, but will still hold the statue for display -- or the statue can stand independently. Other than a very tiny scratch on the side above the old LALIQUE FRANCE script signature, I find no nipping or damage to the edges - I have shown the tiny cased air bubble and the flaw on the bottom side edge - both from production.
Just a large and dramatic Lalique religious statue - beautifully hand crafted by Lalique's Alsace France workshops. An elegant addition to any home, collection or display!
