    Description

You will receive exact basket in pictures.  9" tall X 14" wide.  Large and unusual shape.  Pattern of married woman. the points on the triangle shows the Lebola paid for her.  The woman who made this basket is Kuhama. This basket would be for used for dry storage items.
    This style basket is rare.
Zululand (yes that is the large area of South Africa where the Zulu live) is a remote area in the far North East part of South Africa that borders with Mozambique and the Indian Ocean.  Few tourists make it to this area.  World class Scuba diving is the main attraction (I had the pleasure of working as a Scuba Instructor there).  Back to the "remote",  shipping (from Africa) is a main concern with these baskets.
I consider African baskets an excellent décor value.  A statement to women's art,  women who live in a harsh environment.  Universal art that will grace any home regardless of ethnic background.  A dying art as this is a "rural" craft.  This basket should be considered investment art.  Look over my selection of TONGA baskets in my store category AFRICAN ART  (left side this page) for a glorious compliment to any Zulu Basket.  (Zulu - Wow - what a cool name).
